Crime Hot Spots

Cooling Down Crime

Hank Sims at the Lost Coast Outpost did a good job using crime mapping to show where crime occurs in a neighborhood on the west side of Eureka.  http://lostcoastoutpost.com/2015/may/13/big-neighborhood-meeting-jefferson-school-tonight

It’s even scalable. We could refine it even further if we were able to get additional data and that day is coming. A new Records Management System (RMS) will be on line in early November.

By looking at historical data one can focus on crime in places and work to change the environment to reduce crime,  particularly theft related crimes.  You can join NOW the west side neighborhood on walks. Call Captain Stephens at 441-4060. EPD will focus on the “Hot Spots” as we are able to identify them.

You too must do your part.   You can put away things worth stealing rather than leave them visible in your car.  You can lock your car or place things in your trunk.  Remember what is of value to you and the average drug addict are two different values.  Ivan Minsal, the new Chief of Crescent City said it well:

HIDE IT!

LOCK IT!

KEEP IT!

Here is a 7 minute video explaining hot spots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ug-ZhvvQjmw
